May 13: Sectarian violence claims the life of a religious leader in Karachi
Maulana Aslam Sheikhupuri, a religious scholar along with his driver were gunned down in an act of 'sectarian' killing in Karachi. Two guards of Sheikhupuri were also injured in the attack that occured near Rangoonwala Centre in the New Town Police Station area. Four armed men, riding two motorcycles, intercepted the car carrying Sheikhupuri, his guards and his driver and opened fire. A score of Sheikhupuri’s students and followers reached the hospital and shouted slogans against the rival sectarian group. Tensions also ensued in other parts of the city where armed men restored to aerial shooting. Daily Times
